The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN RCO) in Nepal works under the strategic guidance of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) and supports the UN Country Team (UNCT) in the advancement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The UN RCO fulfils the following five key functions in support of the responsibilities of the RC and the UNCT including Strategic planning, Development economics, Partnerships and development finance, Data and results management and reporting and Research, communications and advocacy. The UN RCO and UNCT work closely with the Government of Nepal and other Development Partners to support Nepal in achieving Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The UN RCO team supports the RC and UNCT in ensuring a more coordinated and coherent approach across the work of the UN and is composed of experts in development and humanitarian coordination, information management, human rights, gender equality and communications. The UNRCO internship is for six months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of the Head of UN Resident Coordinator’s Office.
The intern is expected to fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:
• Administrative Support: Manage the Head’s calendar, schedule meetings, and handle correspondence.
• Coordination: Facilitate communication between the Resident Coordinator’s Office and other departments, UN agencies, and external partners.
• Research and Analysis: Conduct research, prepare reports, and provide insights on key issues and initiatives.
• Event Management: Organize and coordinate events, meetings, and conferences. • Documentation: Prepare and review documents, presentations, briefing materials, and meeting minutes.
• Speech and Talking Points Preparation: Draft speeches, talking points, and other communication materials for the Head.
• Project Management: Assist in the planning and execution of special projects and initiatives.
 
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
 
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
 
No work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
 
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
